can healy be claimed on health insurance?

Can Healy be claimed on your Health Insurance?

Before we get to that, let’s talk about the ARTG, TGA, Medical Devices, and TimeWaver!

What is the ARTG and the TGA? How does this relate to Healy and Health Insurance?

“Therapeutic goods entered in the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG) can be lawfully supplied in Australia. The ARTG is the reference database of the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA)”. Reference: Australian Government Department of Health – Therapeutic Goods Administration

The good news is Healy has been listed in the ARTG for ‘Medical Device Included Class 11a’. The Manufacturer Name is TimeWaver Production GmbH.

This Public Summary from the TGA shows the Healy having ‘Active Status’ in Medical Devices and is listed as Analgesic TENS System.

For information regarding TGA Approval, Classification, and more … see the Medical devices overview https://www.tga.gov.au/medical-devices-overview

Some Health Insurers offer rebates on the Healy Device!

A bit of research has shown that with Healy being registered with the ARTG under the classification of Analgesic TENS System, there are Health Insurers that offer a rebate on the device.

“The suggestion is to contact your Health Insurer; you’ll want to confirm that your Extras Cover has the feature that covers Medical Devices i.e. your Healy! ?.”

You can be prepared for speaking with your Insurer by having the Public Summary handy. You may also require a referral letter from your GP or Specialist that explains the medical need of your Healy’s use, for example: ‘to help treat a variety of pain conditions such as arthritis, headaches or lower back pain.’ Your Insurer will let you know what you will need to supply for your claim.

If you would like to benefit from using Healy, please let us know and we’ll help you on your way!
